Transcreation is the process of creative translation. It involves going beyond a "straight translation" that stays completely faithful to the source text. Often times, especially in advertising or marketing copy, a straight translation will not work due to idioms, expressions, puns or word play that have no direct translation within the cultural context of the target language.
In such cases, our translators must transcreate which involves capturing the essence of the message and re-creating it in the target language so that it will be culturally authentic and make perfect sense to the target audience. Perhaps the transcreation will involve new puns, new word play and new humor and it may even require new supporting graphics or images that will also be more appealing or acceptable to the target audience.
